Source: Rubai 1815 · Ganjoor. This rubai is catalogued under Rumi, but related versions have circulated under other names; historical attribution should not be overstated.
Source: Masnavi · Book One, section 9 · Ganjoor. The verse appears in the story of the king and maidservant, in the goldsmith's words concerning the consequences of conduct.
Source: Masnavi · Book Two, opening section · Ganjoor. The surrounding verses concern affinity and like qualities, rather than financial destiny.

Reflection · English
Ask yourself what you are seeking, how you act, and what kind of friend you want to be;not only what kind of friends you want to have.
What we pursue can shape our priorities. Actions can have consequences for other people. Shared values can matter in choosing friends. These ideas are invitations to reflect, not guarantees of wealth or success.
Worrying about poverty does not mean choosing poverty. Financial circumstances do not measure a person's worth, and repeating affirmations does not establish a reliable route to wealth.
3 · Think
What is worth pursuing? How is concern about a difficulty different from wishing for it? Which qualities make someone a trustworthy companion?
4 · Try
Choose one small action today that reflects honesty, kindness or responsibility. Notice the effect it has on yourself and others, without expecting a guaranteed reward.
5 · Reflect together
What kind of friend would you like to become? What matters more in friendship: wealth, or how people treat one another? Discuss only if comfortable; no personal information is submitted or saved.
Literary attribution and evidence
Three source pages: Rubai 1815; Masnavi Book One, section 9; Masnavi Book Two, section 1. The first rubai's attribution has circulated in different traditions and is not guaranteed by the catalogue listing alone.
Not Rumi's words: Assertions that thoughts of poverty cause poverty; that chanting “one is wealthy” creates wealth; that people enter fixed poverty/wealth “orbits”; or that friendship is a greater cause of wealth than having a wealthy parent. Such claims are not established by these verses and would require independent evidence.
Family beta: The Afghan Dari educational explanation is not presented as final language instruction until native review. Historical poems are retained separately from modern interpretation.
